Little glimpses of a Future You. 2.

Baie des Millionaires

The sun crests the silhouetted pines and limns the rocks under the clear water of the calm bay.

The full face mask takes in a panorama of pooling fish — feeding on weed, surfing the undertow — busy in unselfconscious certainty in the flickering light.

Floating. Supine. Above

the woman revels in the silent coolness, grateful for a moment of stopped time — a different pressure , a release.

A sudden, too close downward rush of thrusting water and light fracture to the left, panics her into a thrashing scramble for the shore

From where, aeons later, feet on solid rock, she dares to look:

It is a cormorant, diving and bobbing with full beak in a growing patch of silver.

The sun strengthens.

She is no longer welcome here.
