Confession of a failed climate activist.

O — I failed!

I failed to lead a fight back by example.

This crisis of climate that we simmer in will boil us all yet!

I thought that by changing my lifestyle (which was already low key), I could persuade anyone noticing to make some changes in their own lives (because the teacher in me knows that the only real way to effect change is to lead by example — to facilitate another’s awakening by doing it yourself…)

Seven years ago — prompted by health issues amongst other things, I made the decision to move country in order to live well, with as low a carbon footprint as possible.

France was the obvious choice — both for quality of life and for the cheap and efficient public transport system, making it easy to ditch the car. I haven’t driven since and do not miss it.

I moved to a small, but vibrant town where walking to everything is easy and the sea is on the doorstep.

Sure, it’s expensive but without car costs, eschewing meat, not needing holidays or to travel and buying locally grown food, I live well on a quarter of what I needed to function in the UK.

The lover and I swim most days before working from home. This is essentially a one…
