You are magnificent!

Your collective relief transposed into exuberance and joy was a tonic to witness as the terraces opened and the Aperol Spritz flowed.

It has been tough, this universal holding of breath — and you all played your part well. The exhalation on Wednesday was primal and took everyone by surprise — because we all thought that we were coping, right?

But as the drinks went down and the rhythm went up at the Happy Face, you screamed, stomped and swayed in spontaneous party fashion — dancing on tables, masks off — FREE!

When the music stopped, you howled.

When the gendarmes tried to drive through — way after the new curfew limit of 21.00, you stood your ground and refused to be dispersed.

Individuals as one in a stand off against the un-clear rules of the last year — and the flouting of them by Money — and for one glorious hour, you defied, you danced — you dared!

As here in a privileged corner of the Cote d’Azur, as everywhere where we have been forced to confront what it means to be alive and to not take what we have for granted -
